How Ip-based Video surveillance Works -- Way Beyond Analog

When you're shopping colse to for an Ip-based video surveillance system, you will need to be particularly cautious about what exactly you're seeing at and what the personel terms mean. How Ip-based video surveillance works is open to interpretation as far as some video surveillance and protection salespeople are involved -- not because they are trying to confuse the issues, but because there is no genuine consensus on what the term "Ip-based" or related ones such as "networked" or "web-based" means.

Originally video surveillance was done based on analog technology -- accomplished
circuit television (Cctv) and recording on video tapes. This was fine for
recording what was going on, but it didn't broadcast actual live information, so
it wasn't practical for monitoring stores, for instance, from a remote location.

can record, display or retransmit the images to anywhere in the world.

selecting specific "flagged" items to watch for and a host of other functions,

processing that send packetized video streams over the Lan straight through a Cat 5 cable
rather than a coax cable network, utilizing greater bandwidth and acceptable
Tcp/Ip communication.

security is an issue, full digital surveillance also offers the added benefit
of data encryption opportunities to safe against image tampering -- something
not possible with analog recording.

Recently, a few fellowships such as D-Link and Linksys have also advanced fully
digital cameras that beyond doubt have completely integrated, built-in web servers
so that no external computers are needed for operating them. The signal is
transmitted directly to the terminal location for storehouse or play-back.

The "middle of the road" of video surveillance is upgrading video

really fully Ip-based, but is step toward the more advanced Ip technology. In
actuality, a Dvr law uses the same camera and structures for cabling as the
older Cctv analog systems, but the old Vcrs have been supplanted with Dvr for
storage of the data. The data is converted to digital so that it can be stored
on hard disks, but the ability of the images captured remains analog since this
is how it originated.

When shopping for a system, be sure to ask if the law is digital based on
the recording (Dvr) or on the camera, since many manufacturers think a law

ten feet of the computer itself.

Set-up of an Ip-based video law is easy -- once you've set up an Ip
address, you're up and running and it's highly carport and reliable. Because
this is the technology of the future, it is also upgradeable. You won't be
outgrowing an Ip-based video surveillance law any time soon because new
developments are based on improving this market. Therefore, you will be able to
add on and improve this law for years to come while older, Cctv+Dvr hybrids
will dead-end and become obsolete.

Comparing analog and Ip-based video surveillance

A better way to understand the differences between analog and Ip-based video

llance may be to correlate the two and how they work:

o Digital images can be encrypted for protection purposes

o Updates and add-ons are relatively reasonable straight through software packages and Internet computer networking

o Adjustable frame rates

o Remote or shared viewing may be done over the Internet or a wireless connection

o acceptable Ip video compression techniques are used

o Ip surveillance cameras may be added individually or in groups according to your needs

If you are contemplating increased or upgrading video surveillance for your
company or home, insight how Ip-based video surveillance works will make
your decision easier. It is the hereafter of video surveillance and, although in
the short term may be a bit more expensive, is obviously an investment in
superior ability and flexibility.

What is the Difference Between Network IP Cameras and Analog CCTV Cameras?

If you are considering installing a new video surveillance system, or expanding your existing video surveillance system, you might want to consider installing, or upgrading to a network IP video system. A network video surveillance system offers you a number of improvements over a traditional CCTV video system, like better image quality and lower cost to own and maintain.

A network IP system runs off a local area network, or LAN, which connects computers by ethernet. You access each camera like it was it's own computer, because it has it's own network IP address. You can control this camera from anywhere in the world and it makes for easier use than a traditional analog CCTV video system.

For years, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) video surveillance systems were the only choice for video surveillance of your home or business. At first, the images from analog cameras were transmitted through cables to a quad, or monitor for viewing. With the advent of the Video Cassette Recorder (VCR), you were finally able to record the video to a VHS tape for future viewing. However, if you had to actually find an instance of needing the video for law enforcement, it required watching, or fast forwarding through hours of video.

This advanced to using a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or DVR card in a computer to convert the analog video signals to digital formats. Then the video can be recorded to a hard disc, or burned to a DVR. They were still closed systems using CCTV cameras that were viewable only by the administrators of the surveillance system. Recent advancements have allowed those DVR's to have the ability to connect to the Internet, so you can remotely view the cameras from any Internet accessible computer or smart phone. The problems are that the cameras are still analog and the system is far from perfect.

While Network IP Cameras have been around since the mid-1990's, they were originally not as good as professional analog cameras. The allowed digital imaging, networking, and storage, though they were usually web-cams that let you view a tiny, grainy image over the Internet, or a local area network.

The times have changed; technology and IP technology have married up with the digital camera, to create the ultimate video surveillance system. IP network capable cameras have caught up with analog camera technology, and now exceed the quality of the video from traditional CCTV cameras.
